What do you recommend people do to reduce their exposure to smart meter emissions?
You ask such complex questions, but (I suspect) require simple answers. Smart Meters are a subset of AMR (Automated Meter Reading) which has been around for decades. It is not the habit of those installing such meters to change them when newer technology becomes available, if the payback period for the previous meter installation has not been fulfilled (that would be throwing money out the window, and is frowned upon). So there remain in place a variety of permutations of Smart Meters. Some are accessible by a telephone land-line and modem. May sound antiquated, but they still work, so they remain in place. Some are accessible by data they impress (at various frequencies) onto the 240V supply to residences or otherwise for business, which data is then aggregated in power substations, and then sent to the ultimate destination by other means. Some are accessible by wireless communication only when polled. Some are accessible by wireless communication by schedule. Some have modified schedules to meet the business need. So the question that begs to be asked is: reduce the exposure from what kind of meter? If you severely restrict the answer to one type and one type only, being the latest and greatest, which may reduce the value of the answer, then I could say, have the meter and the meter housing removed temporarily, install a cement board (such as what is used in baths to install tiles) where the meter housing was attached, and reattach the meter and housing. Cement / Concrete is partially conductive (and does not need to be grounded), and will reduce the Radiated signal greatly, if we’re talking strictly Radio Frequency (RF). If the meter and housing cannot be removed, then a cement panel installed on the other side of the wall may be helpful, but the added distance between the panel and the meter will shrink the area of reduced intensity. Simpler solutions are largely ineffective for various reasons.
What are typical safe distances (some people seems to react at least 4 meters away)
Making the rash assumption that the Radiated power is similar to that from a cell phone, the question needs to be conditioned on what structures exist between the meter and the user, as I seriously doubt that anyone spends a lot of time by such meters, on the same side of the wall. If you were to consider Thermal guidelines, then maybe 12 inches is quite enough, again considering that there may be people sleeping on the other side of the meter. If you consider non-thermal effects, and consider the Inverse Square Law of emitted level reduction, then about 10 feet (close to three (3) meters) may be sufficient, also dependent on the sensitivity of the individual.
What do you recommend on ways to shield their RFs? (Some recommend 4 layers of foil paper)
There are some myths that readers need to unlearn. One of them is that Aluminum / foil is the solution. It is NOT. Aluminum is highly conductive. Placing it anywhere within an alternating field (Electric, Magnetic, or RF), the foil will acquire voltages and currents of its own and act like a secondary antenna. So the solution is to ground it. But grounding it needs to have wavelength considerations come into play, because if the grounding cord is any multiple of a quarter (¼) wavelength of the frequency you want to block, the grounding cord may become electrically absent. So the grounding effort fails. So the “expert” calculates the wavelength based on the speed of light in a vacuum (being about 180,000 miles/second) and cuts a cord of the proper length. This effort fails too, because the speed of moving electrons in/on a wire is slower than the speed of light. So “expert” recommendations of 4 layers are not based on fact. See a suggestion in the first answer.
If their emissions a so much lower than WiFi and cell phones, why are so many people reporting electrosensitivity symptoms appearing for the first time in their life after their installation in their home?
This is a complex issue, partly based on occupant awareness, partly based on electric wiring type, partly based on electric fixture arrangement, partly based on meter type. I’ll try to cover some aspects but cannot do justice without a real lengthy discourse, or covering all variables, which gets very technical very quickly. Utilities eligible for smart meter application are water, gas, and electric. Water and gas may not have the benefit of nearby AC, so their design minimizes transmit bursts and repetition rate, as that is the greatest drain of battery resources. I have a smart meter on my water utility and it is powered by a battery designed to last several, if not many, years. Since meter design is more economical when standardized, I strongly suspect the electric utility smart meter application is similarly a very low powered device. Be that as it may, electric utility smart meters have the benefit of nearby power, and since they cannot use 120/240 directly, they use a switching power supply for their needs, instead of transformer. The current waveform and related emissions spectrum is described in detail at www.emfrelief.com/capacitive-filters.html – Peculiarly our homes are acquiring an abundant supply of many such switching power supplies. A recent LED lamp I tested had one. My and your laptop PCs each have one. Fluorescent lamps of any kind produce a very similar waveform. LED spotlights have them within the spotlight case. Your cell phone charger is one. Your telephone answering machine may have one. Your camera battery charger is one. Need I go on? What is really happening is that the electromagnetic spectrum within a home is becoming rich with wideband energy (harmonics of 60 Hz), from 60 Hz to the MHz region by various and many contributors. Many of these frequencies are within the hearing range. Many of these frequencies have biological importance. Being that many homes have Romex, brings about a vehicle to convey those rich harmonics in free space about the home. Those currents produce voltages that are impressed on the supply voltage within the affected residence, as well as the supply transformer, which feeds several other homes. So if you do not have electrical noisemakers in your home, and your neighbor does, you have electrical noisemakers in your home. Surprise? While our homes acquire an abundant supply of these electrical noise sources, the body approaches the point where it can no longer tolerate them. All of these sources produce current and voltage fluctuations (while the physics are simple, my web site only makes passing reference to the exacting details, but I’ll be glad to explain, if needed) that some call a portion of (the voltage component only) dirty electricity. Some appear to provide solutions that make the voltage fluctuations diminish at the expense of increasing the current fluctuations. Unless both current and voltage issues are addressed, any solution is asinine. A recent e-mail thread of yours made reference to transients as contrasted to dirty electricity. Turning a lamp on or off, for example, causes a single electrical transient, detectable everywhere else in the home. Turning that lamp on and off 120 times per second mimics a dimmer switch or a fluorescent lamp, making a train of individual transients, and some call that dirty electricity. So one is simply a longer duration of the other. If I may digress for a moment and add in some of the more recent snippets in the media highlighting wireless devices as possibly being unsafe, can cause a homeowner to panic and bring about the inevitable (electrosensitivity) almost as a self-fulfilling prophecy. I would suspect, however, that in many cases that is not so, and the electrosensitivity is simply an inevitable outcome of a gradual building up of biologically significant frequency inputs. An additional thought is that the wireless emissions produce bursts of energy whose wave envelope (or wave-shape) resembles a square wave. Anything other than a sine wave (such as 60 Hz) is a combination of many sine waves of different frequencies. A 60 Hz square wave is a combination of an infinite series of odd harmonics of 60 Hz. If the wireless transmit burst is around 200 Hz, then add in an infinite series of odd harmonics of 200 Hz, and you begin to get the picture. This is basic physics. When those waveforms are impressed on residential wiring by Radiated emissions, they then become Conducted waveforms on the wires. These are then distributed about the home by the same mechanism mentioned earlier. If there are several smart meters in the neighborhood, their being in common to one transformer can cause an additive effect. That is, two meters on one transformer at 500 bursts each = 1000 conducted emissions per day, four meters = 2000 conducted emissions per day, six meters = 3000. If we use your example of 1500 per day, and there are six meters, that would be 9000 combined emissions per day, equivalent to one every 20 seconds, if they are distributed evenly. What we don’t know, and cannot, because one system configuration will be different from another, is what the overall behavior will be in any one situation, without extensive testing. But most customers cannot pay to have someone stand by the meter for even a few hours to determine the meter behavior. While there are several companies that sell passive capacitive filters, these are not a solution (corroborated by engineers who are forced to evaluate all options, as highlighted by the following file, http://www.onsemi.com/pub/Collateral/HBD853-D.PDF (PS. Just read chapter one to understand the issues)). A symposium on Electromagnetic Compatibility (http://2012emc.org) is being arranged for August 5-10 in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. It will cover aspects of Power Frequency EMI (Electromagnetic Interference), of which switching power supplies are prolific producers. It may even cover aspects of smart metering effects induced on wiring. It may be worthwhile to attend for any who analyze or troubleshoot electrical systems, or try to engineer solutions.
What utilities have adopted the safest approach and what is it?
Utilities are not concerned with a “safe” approach, as they have carte blanche as long as the emissions are below thermal levels. They have a legal mandate to provide power or other services at the lowest possible cost, due to various levels of regulation. Since we the customers want cheap rates, and we don’t suggest or tell them how, they are then free to choose what they think is the most feasible means as it relates to return on investment. The added benefit, as the power companies or other utilities see it, is that they can jettison their meter reading personnel, and all associated personnel costs.
Hydro-Quebec says they emit only 6 times a day, but that’s only the information on power use. Their Landis & Gyr meters actually emit RFs 1500 times a day. That would mean once per minute. That absolutely doe not make sense. I would suspect a measurement artifact. These meters have the capability to perform data storage, so that lots of data points can be aggregated and sent in infrequent bursts. Even cell phones only check in every three minutes or so, when in standby, making their standby emissions about 500 RF bursts per day. The data transmit frequency you describe would imply that the utility is acquiring almost second by second consumption data to determine real-time usage, which is tantamount to invasive surveillance. Having worked as a power system dispatcher for six years, and having monitored data flows and adjusted regularly for regional or system-wide voltage fluctuations, I cannot see the use for that level of detail in real-time data other than eavesdropping, but that is just my opinion.

Chile’s CGE to deploy Kamstrup smart metering system
Santiago de Chile and Skanderborg, Denmark --- (METERING.COM) --- April 20, 2012 - Chile’s CGE Group is deploying an advanced smart metering system from Kamstrup, with a pilot installation currently being carried out in the cities of Buin and Rancagua, close to the capital city of Santiago. The project is one of the first smart metering-implementations in Chile. The wireless smart metering system is claimed to be one of the most advanced two way-communication systems on the market today allowing flexible tariffs, home automation and multi-utility business. “We see this project as a vital provision for future business developments including a secure and steady supply of energy,” said Eduardo Mora, Technology and R&D manager in Tecnet, the technology partner of the CGE group. “We are proud to be one of the first in the Chilean energy industry to present an intelligent metering system to our customers.” Meter reading results in the pilot have demonstrated a 100 percent success rate so far, Tecnet has reported. The smart meters being delivered enable home automation with multiple communication standards including Wireless M-Bus, Zigbee and Z-Wave. As part of a corporate restructuring -- and essential nationalization -- in the wake of the nuclear crisis that began last March after the earthquake and tsunami, the Japanese utility is being ordered by the government to invite bids from both Japanese and foreign firms for the meters.
The metering is part of a plan to trim about 103 billion yen ($1.3 billion) in costs over the next 10 years. The plan also includes offering voluntary retirement packages to aging workers and selling assets. But the meters are expected to cut down on manual meter readings, offer customers more detailed information about their energy consumption and improve efficiency.
News of the metering plan, which has been percolating since late 2011, has mostly come from the Nikkei. According to Japanese reports, the meters will cost about 200 billion yen($2.6 billion), but Tepco is hoping to keep the cost per meter at about 10,000 yen per unit, or about $129.
It’s unclear if that figure also includes the communications backhaul to the meter. That is not out of line with what many large European utilities pay for meters, but is certainly lower than what the average U.S. utility deployment goes for.
The cost of meters is a fraction of the claims from the victims affected by the Fukushima disaster, which are expected to reach nearly 4.5 trillion yen ($58 billion).
'Dictatorship of the Bureaucrats'Light-Bulb Ban Casts Shadow over EU Democracy

Beginning Saturday, it will be illegal to import or produce traditional incandescent light bulbs in EU member states. The move has upset consumers and many environmentalists, but it serves to highlight the EU's democratic deficiencies.
From the front, the item the defendants dragged into the courtroom looked like an ordinary mobile heater: a vertical, slightly ribbed metal plate with a power cable. Only when seen from the back did the device reveal itself to be a battery of interconnected 100-watt light bulbs. Packed closely together, the bulbs heat the metal plate, which in turn radiates heat into a room.
This was the way the "Electric Resistance Society" was trying to circumvent European Union bans and bring traditional incandescent light bulbs back to Europe. It argued that there could be no legal objection to selling them as miniature heating units for homes.
But the judges at the administrative court in the western German city of Aachen were not impressed by Siegfried Rotthäuser and Rudolf Hannot's attempt to outsmart the system. The judges prohibited the sale of 40,000 "Heatballs" seized by customs authorities that the two engineers had had made in China. In fact, the "Heatballs" were nothing but ordinary tungsten light bulbs. And that makes them hot goods since the European Commission issued Regulation No. 244/2009. The regulation calls for a gradual ban on sales of all traditional incandescent light bulbs. The first to go were 100-watt bulbs, on Sept. 1, 2009, and it will cover all remaining bulbs as of Sept. 1, 2012.
The reason is that incandescent light bulbs waste 95 percent of the energy they consume. If the EU's climate objectives are to be met, the reasoning goes, Europeans can no longer afford to use such energy-gobbling devices. As a result, the classic -- and popular -- light bulbs have been gradually disappearing from store shelves in the EU.
Now that 100-, 75- and 60-watt bulbs have already been eliminated, as of Sept. 1 the smaller 25- and 40-watt bulbs will also slowly disappear from the lives of 500 million Europeans -- without any of those citizens having ever been asked about the ban. Nowhere is the bureaucratic influence of European government agencies as powerful as in the delirium of energy efficiency.
"The EU has made a decision without consulting citizens and, in doing so, it has massively intervened in our quality of life," says Hannot, the light-bulb activist. This paternalism and lack of transparency almost aggravates him more than doing without the stronger, warmer light of incandescent light bulbs. The makers of the documentary film "Bulb Fiction" even speculate that the European light-bulb lobby, including major companies like Philips and Osram, are behind the demise of the cheaper incandescent light bulb given the much larger profit margins associated with more expensive energy-saving light bulbs.
But there is also someone else behind the phase-out of incandescent bulbs: Sigmar Gabriel, the current chairman of the center-left Social Democratic Party (SPD), Germany's largest opposition party.
The 53-year-old -- who is undoubtedly a shining light for the Social Democrats today -- wanted to make a name for himself in 2007, when he was the federal environment minister. At the time, Germany was ruled by a grand coalition made up of the SPD, Chancellor Angela Merkel's center-right Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and its Bavarian sister party, the Christian Social Union (CSU), and Germany had just assumed the six-month rotating presidency of the European Council presidency in Brussels. Gabriel was seeking the international spotlight.
In February, after Australia announced a ban on incandescent light bulbs, Gabriel wrote to the EU environment commissioner, saying: "Europe can no longer afford products with a degree of efficiency of only 5 percent, such as conventional light bulbs."
He proposed using the Ecodesign Directive, drafted in the European Parliament in 2005, as the legal basis for a ban in Europe. Under the directive, products that consume energy must be designed to be as energy-efficient as possible.
The EU parliamentarians were just as enthusiastic as the Council of the European Union. Perhaps it was because a ban on incandescent light bulbs, which would be relatively easy to implement, would enable them to score some quick victories on the climate front. After all, the EU's pledge to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 20 percent by 2020 was highly ambitious from the start.
Death Blow to the Tungsten Wire
The proposed light-bulb ban had come along at just the right time, and it was up to the Commission to develop the necessary directives. The complicated EU process known as comitology, whereby its legislative bodies delegate detailed implementing measures to the executive, had begun. Since then, the issue has been an ongoing topic in back-room meetings in Brussels.
In a preliminary study, experts working with representatives from both industry and environmental groups developed a working document. In March 2008, the document was submitted to the Ecodesign Consultation Forum, which includes representatives of the member states as well as lobbyists for industry and NGOs.
In the end, a win-win situation seemed to have been created for (almost) everyone. The industry could sell its expensive energy-saving light bulbs, bulb designers would receive new commissions for the necessary light bulbs and environmental organizations and politicians could claim credit for a success in the fight against climate change.
The regulatory committee approved the proposal on Dec. 8, 2008, and none of the member states raised any objections. At this point, while lawmakers seemed to have been asleep at the wheel, the general public still had no idea about what was being cooked up for them. Finally, when the European Commission adoptedDirective 244/2009, on March 18, 2009, the fate of the tungsten wire was sealed.
An Environmental 'Crime'?
To this day, environmental groups from Greenpeace to the German Environmental Aid Association (DUH) welcome the mandatory switch to the energy-saving light bulb. But for chemist Michael Braungart, the new products are "a crime" owing to the highly toxic mercury they contain. "In the name of protecting the environment, the EU is forcing its citizens to bring toxic waste into their homes," says Braungart, who calls the legislation "perverse."
In a 2010 study, the German Federal Environment Agency (BMU) concluded that if one of the bulbs is accidentally broken, it is sufficient to simply open the windows and air out the space. But even if the bulbs are not broken, disposal is problematic. Since the EU does not require retailers to take back the bulbs, 80 percent end up in household garbage, leaving the mercury to ultimately seep into the soil or groundwater.
"It's still less than would be released if we had to produce the energy we save in coal-fired power plants," counters the DUH.
But as much as opinions diverge on energy-saving light bulbs, there is widespread agreement over the problematic nature of decision-making procedures in Brussels. The EU's two legislative bodies, the Council of the European Union and the European Parliament, had actually meant to use the 2009 Lisbon Treaty to wrestle back some authority from the European Commission, its executive body. But, instead, the bureaucracy has become even more powerful.
After a tough battle, the following solution was eventually rubber-stamped: The Commission can adopt laws via either a "delegated act" or an "implementing act." In the former case, it is no longer necessary to involve an expert committee or engage in any consultations. The European Parliament merely has a right of revocation and a deadline for objections.
In the case of implementation authority, the Commission must consult with a committee consisting of representatives of the member states. Depending on the procedure, this committee can obstruct Commission proposals or merely provide consultation -- but it doesn't have a veto. Lawmakers decide on which procedure will apply in a given case.
Bureaucrats Muscling Out Parliamentarians
For Holger Krahmer, a member of the European Parliament for Germany's business-friendly Free Democratic Party (FDP), the reform is a complete failure. "We are heading for a dictatorship of bureaucrats," he says. Krahmer is on the energy committee, which is using the Ecodesign Directive to make more and more products more energy-efficient.
For example, plans call for mandating that the heating plates of coffee makers are designed to only stay on for a specific amount of time. Vacuum cleaners are supposed to become more efficient with the additional of moveable suction mouths. Laundry detergent could be reformulated so that it dissolves fats at only 20 degrees Celsius (68 degrees Fahrenheit). And laundry itself could soon be cleaned using microwave or vacuum technology.
A debate over the showerhead of the future is also causing a certain amount of stress. Germany opposes water-saving showerheads. The country's sewage pipes already threaten to dry up today because water-saving plumbing devices are making it so that not enough water is being flushed through the system. Everything from stoves to heating systems, ovens, windows and insulation is being tested and made more efficient by the EU.
When a refrigerator makes a beeping noise because the door has been left open too long, it's probably because of the efforts of people working for EU Energy Commissioner Günther Oettinger. It might not even be long before bureaucrats will be telling Europeans how brown their toast and how hot their showers can be.
If the European Parliament or the Council of the European Union want to reject a measure, they will have to come up with a majority against it. If no one takes action, the provision automatically takes effect after a predetermined time period. For Krahmer, this presents an insurmountable hurdle. "Neither the Council of the European Union nor the European Parliament has the muscle to oppose the power of the bureaucrats," he says.
The German think-tank Centre for European Policy (CEP) is also skeptical. "Instead of enacting laws, lawmakers are now supposed to block them," says spokesman Ralf Jaksch, noting that the new procedures are "difficult to reconcile with the fundamental principles of democracy." For Sven Giegold, a member of the European Parliament with Germany's Green Party, the ability to monitor decisions depends heavily on the commitment of individual members. But even the flood of information is increasingly overwhelming even the most industrious. "Perhaps our economic system has now become too complex for a democracy," he says.
Neighbours of a property where communications giant Bell Canada plans to build a 14-storey communications tower in Port Robinson say they’re not going to let the project proceed without a fight.
Bell says the 45-metre-tall tower is needed after drive tests and customer comments on “poor and non-existent” wireless service in the area showed a new antenna site in the Highway 406 and Port Robinson Road area is needed for wireless devices such as cell phones and Blackberries that virtually everyone is now carrying.
At the Aug. 28 meeting of city council, city staff recommended the proposal for the tower at 2200 Port Robinson Rd. be supported because the land is intended for future industrial development, and because such towers should be placed in industrial areas rather than in areas planned for residential development.
Senior city planner Eldon Darbyson said the information package sent to neighbours noted electromagnetic emissions from the tower are expected to be only one per cent to five per cent of Industry Canada’s standard known as Safety Code 6, which limits such emissions to Health Canada’s recommended human exposure to certain frequency ranges.
In an information package sent to neighbours, Sean Galbraith, the agent for Bell, noted wireless communications towers are federally regulated and that “as a result are not required to obtain municipal permits of any kind.” Industry Canada does require, however, that public consultation be obtained.
But George Domitrek, who lives 185 metres from what will be the base of the tower, said neighbours plan to show up at next Tuesday’s city council meeting to fight the tower.
Federal rules only require residents living within 135 metres of such towers to be notified of their planned construction. Domitrek said he only learned of the planned tower when he heard about it while watching the most recent city council meeting on television.
“The information was withheld from some neighbours,” he said. “The notification process has been compromised.”
He said allowing Bell to oversee that notification process is fundamentally flawed because it’s a conflict of interest.
“It’s the fox watching the henhouse,” he said.
Darbyson noted the city did receive one phone call from a woman living next to the tower site, who said she and her neighbours are opposed to the tower and that they don’t want to be “guinea pigs for exposure” to the tower’s transmissions.
Domitrek said the explosive growth in wireless technology and all the towers needed for that in recent years mean the long-term health effects of human exposure haven’t yet been determined.
“They (health effects) could be bigger than tobacco or asbestos 20 years from now,” he said. “There’s a lot of talk about health hazards.
“People could get barbecued by this.”
He noted some Canadian cities and towns are calling for exposure to electromagnetic radiation to be 100 times less than what’s spelled out in Industry Canada’s Section 6, to be on the safe side.
Domitrek hopes city council will support calls for the tower plan to be put on hold.
“It’s in council’s best interest to look after the interests of residents of Port Robinson, not Bell Canada,” he said.
Darbyson said in his recent report to city council that Bell’s tower will be designed to accommodate additional wireless carriers, which would reduce the need for other towers in the area in the future.

Professor Girish Kumar of IIT-B has been working single-handedly on requesting top policy-makers of the country to enforce stricter radiation norms that will protect people and the environment.
Currently India implements the 1998 guidelines of ICNIRP (International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection). The guidelines consider only short term effects of radiation and not the long term ones. They have given the following disclosure.
“ICNIRP is only intended to protect the public against short term gross heating effects and ‘not’ against ‘biological’ effects such as cancer and genetic damage from low term low level microwave exposure from mobile phones, masts and other wireless devices.”
Clearly these so called exposure safety standards adopted in India are not adequate and so, there is an urgent need to adopt better radiation norms in the country.
He said, “Our bodies can absorb radiation only to a certain limit. Operators must reduce the transmitted power from current 20W/carrier to a maximum one or two W/carrier especially in a dense urban area. For successful communication, 0.00000000001 W/m2 is enough.”
The disadvantage of doing this is that power range will reduce and people living at larger distance may have signal problem initially. To combat this problem, he suggested that operators should first install more number of towers, which will cost them more money.
Second, radiation measurements have to be done at residences, offices, schools, hospitals. If the power density level detected is high (i.e., more than 100 microwatts/m2 after reduction of the transmitted power), then either towers have to be relocated or height of the towers has to be increased or direction of the antenna has to be changed. Again, any of these steps will require additional investment.
Currently we have 5 lakh cell towers in the country and each tower may transmit 100’s of Watts of power. Each additional tower today would cost approximately Rs 15 Lakh. If number of towers increase by 5 lakh, then additional cost will be Rs 75,000 crore. To save money, he said, “Operators are opposing adoption of stricter guidelines.”
The guidelines also are valid only for six minutes. Sadly however, some of the people especially older people, house wives, and small children living near the towers are exposed to radiation of an unsafe level 24 hours a day, according to Kumar.
Talking about the health effects of radiation, he said rather sharply, “How many people in the world are willing to put themselves, their family members, and their unborn children in an open microwave oven for 19 minutes/day?”
Heating any part of the body leads to drying up of fluids. This leads to eye damage, hearing loss, joint problems, skin diseases etc. Some of the other most common complaints, he mentioned are concentration problems, memory loss, sleep disorder, headache, depression, irritability. More severe reactions include seizures, paralysis, miscarriage, irreversible infertility, barrier to free flow of blood to the brain, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and cancer. Children and pregnant ladies are more vulnerable.
Among animals, cows show a decreased level of milk production, spontaneous abortion, reproductive and developmental problems, and general decline in overall health. Sheep, dogs, cats and rabbits living near base stations are also affected. Among birds and bees, radiation interferes with their reproduction and navigation. They cannot find their way back home.
Professor Kumar’s health deteriorated too because of radiation. This led him to take up the study of radiation in order to get an insight into the scientific underpinnings behind this hazard.
He has been creating a general awareness on radiation hazards from cell phones and cell towers at IIT for some time now. His research consists of radiation measurements done at various locations in Mumbai, various floors of a building with cell towers and cases of patients exposed to radiation. NFL Films President Steve Sabol died of brain cancer Tuesday at age 69. Sabol and his father, NFL Films founder Ed Sabol, revolutionized sports broadcasting with their innovations and helped make the NFL the country's most popular sport.

NFL Films President Steve Sabol, half of the father-son team that revolutionized sports broadcasting and mythologized pro football into the country's favorite sport, died Tuesday from brain cancer. He was 69.
In March 2011, Sabol was diagnosed with a tumor on the left side of his brain after being hospitalized for a seizure.
He started working with his father, Ed — NFL Films' founder — in 1964, and they introduced a series of innovations now taken for granted today, from slow-motion replays to sticking microphones on coaches and players.
"Steve Sabol was the creative genius behind the remarkable work of NFL Films," NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement from the league confirming Sabol's death. "Steve's passion for football was matched by his incredible talent and energy. Steve's legacy will be part of the NFL forever. He was a major contributor to the success of the NFL, a man who changed the way we look at football and sports, and a great friend."
Ed Sabol was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame last year. The two received the Lifetime Achievement Emmy from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in 2003.
Steve Sabol has also received the Pete Rozelle Award, presented each year to someone who made an outstanding contribution to professional football. In 2007, the Hall of Fame honored him with the Dan Reeves Pioneer Award.
"We see the game as art as much as sport," he told The Associated Press before his father's Hall induction. "That helped us nurture not only the game's traditions but to develop its mythology: America's Team, The Catch, The Frozen Tundra."
Sabol received 35 Emmys for writing, cinematography, editing, directing and producing. No one else had ever earned that many Emmys in as many different categories.
He began his career as a cinematographer under his father. He was the perfect fit for the job: an all-Rocky Mountain Conference running back at Colorado College majoring in art history.
The Sabols treated sport as film and changed the way Americans watched and perceived games. Their advances included everything from reverse angle replays to setting highlights to pop music.
"Today of course those techniques are so common it's hard to imagine just how radical they once were," the younger Sabol told the AP last year. "Believe me, it wasn't always easy getting people to accept them, but I think it was worth the effort."

We Live in ‘Electromagnetic Soup’
The “electrosmog” that first began developing with the rollout of the electrical grid a century ago and now envelops every inhabitant of Earth is responsible for many of the diseases that impair or kill them.

They Didn’t Have to Use These Damaging Frequencies–They CHOSE To!
Retired British military intelligence scientist Barrie Trower who for years worked in microwave and stealth warfare, has been speaking out and supplying scientific documentation regarding the serious dangers of EMFs, and getting results.

The electromagnetic spectrum is a band that goes from gamma rays and x-rays at one end, the very high energy waves, and it comes down through visible light, which is also some radiation, and then it goes through infrared microwaves, tv and radio. Now the only ones which really affect us in the communications industry are the microwaves, and microwaves have a special ability to interfere with water, which is how microwave ovens work, and we are made of water.
All of our chemical and electrical signals involve water in the body, somehow, electrical communications in the body. So, the industry has picked the worst possible part of the electromagnetic spectrum to give to young children and to adults (with regards to cell phones).
The Frightening Effects of WiFi and Cell Phone Radiation on Young Girls
Trower: I have three research papers. I am a scientific adviser to five organisations. Part of my brief is I read international scientific papers, I retranslate them into a language that most people can understand, which is how I advise.
I have three papers showing that low level microwaves can interfere with the genetics in the ovarian follicles. Now what that means in everyday language, different from boys, young girls when they’re born, they will have up to four hundred eggs in their ovaries. The microwaves can damage the genetic structure, we now know, in those ovaries. So, when this young girl grows up, gets married, and has children, if she has a daughter, this particular mitochondrial genetic damage is irreparable. There is nothing at all that can repair it.

Barrie Trower Speaks about Microwave Radiation
On August 24, 2010, Mr. Barrie Trower, a British physicist who was a microwave weapons expert and who worked for the Royal Navy and the British Secret Service, gave a talk at the University of Toronto about the health effects of WiFi and other forms of microwave radiation.
Mr. Trower came out of retirement because he was concerned that the microwave frequencies and intensities to which children are exposed in schools are similar to those used for microwave weapons. Are All These Towers Just For Cell Phones…or Mind and Thought Manipulation?

Reich worked on this project secretly for the CIA for over 5 years, from 1947-1952, until he realized who the CIA was planning to use the mind control on -the American people. He was outraged that he was deceived and used for such a treasonous motive and swore never to cooperate with the CIA, FDA, etc. again. Reich was covertly murdered in Federal prison in 1957, just a few weeks before he was due to be released, having been in prison for 2 years on a trumped up charge leading to a contempt of court citation.

‘Unfortunately, there is not much one can do to stop the proliferation and continued build out of cell phone towers and structures. Although thought to be legislation about deregulation issues, the Telecommunications Act of 1996 (TCA) was really an open invitation for the cell phone industry to place their towers anywhere they wanted. Section 704 of the TCA basically states that local authorities can’t ban the placement of towers in their jurisdictions. The law says: “No State or local government or instrumentality thereof may regulate the placement, construction, and modification of personal wireless service facilities on the basis of the environmental effects of radio frequency emissions to the extent that such facilities comply with the Commission’s regulations concerning such emissions.” So legally the local government can’t refuse the construction of a cell phone tower in your neighborhood! Any challenge by local communities could easily end up in federal court. Our lawmakers have basically given the cell phone industry free reign to install these towers wherever they want. And, by the way, the cell phone industry helped write this legislation that our government officials passed as law! The public, therefore, now has no voice and no vote. Is there something wrong with this picture? Why didn’t our public officials represent the people instead of big business? Why would you let the very industry you’re trying to regulate write it’s own laws?
How Many Cell Phone Towers Are Near You?
The average person lives within one-half mile of a cell phone tower. Have you ever wondered how close you live or work to one of these towers? Would it bother you if one were right in your backyard? How many of these towers and antennas do you think there are in your immediate area? Find out by visiting the website www.antennasearch.com/. Simply type in your address and you’ll get a listing and a map of all the towers and antennas within a short radius of your address. Like most people you’ll probably gasp when you see the numbers. These towers are literally everywhere. Hundreds and hundreds of them are probably located within a few miles of your home or office.
What Can We Do?
Obviously, we can’t escape the exposure. We’ve established that fact. So what can we do to minimize the damage?
Here are few ideas: We need to limit our exposure any way possible. Don’t live near a cell phone tower if you have a choice. Don’t buy a home near one even if the price is right. Limit your use of wireless devices. Go back to ‘wired’ connections whenever possible. Maximize your health through proper nutrition and good hydration. Eat foods high in antioxidants and take supplements. Eat organically as much as possible. There is no safe distance to locate away from a mast tower. Obviously, the closer to the tower the greater the exposure risk so do locate as far away as possible. Whenever possible encourage your local government officials to consider transitioning to the use of fiber optic cable. Most of it has already been laid underground. It’s just not being used. There are no masts with fiber optics and the small amount of radiation at the exits can be neutralized with technology now available. Discourage the use of Wi-Fi in schools by meeting with your school officials and school boards. Wi-Fi hotspots are popping up everywhere now. Even whole cities are going wireless with the installation of Wi-Fi. Again, it’s all done through a wireless signal, which is damaging to your health. Don’t let cell phone companies install cell phone antennas on the roofs of schools where your children attend. The radio waves are disruptive to their ability to focus, not to mention the health hazards we’ve already outlined. If you can’t change your current situation there is some hope. There are some intervention devices now available that you can use in your home, school and office to help lessen the risk of exposure. Knowing what we do regarding the crystalline structure of the universe, I find it intuitively makes a lot of sense, especially when coupled with prayer or intention.
